The parent company of The Queen's Medical Center said Friday it plans to expand and modernize the hospital's emergency, surgery and imaging services. The announcement comes as Queen's says it has officially purchased the closed hospital formerly called Hawaii Medical Center-West. Queen's says it's spending $70 million to buy the land and facilities and make renovations. Queen's says it will call the hospital The Queen's Medical Center - West Oahu. Hawaii Medical Center closed last December after declaring bankruptcy. This forced many patients in fast-growing West Oahu communities to seek treatment at other Oahu hospitals.
