HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Retail gas prices declined again over the past week throughout Hawaii at a faster rate than during the prior week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. The Hawaii state average for regular unleaded declined by two cents during the week to $4.01 per gallon, which was 18 cents less than last month and five cents lower than last year.

Honolulu's average price dropped to $3.93 a gallon for regular unleaded – two cents less than last week, 19 cents less than last month and even with the price a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price slipped below $4 to $3.93 per gallon, down nine cents from last week, 23 cents less than last month and 33 cents less than this time last year. Wailuku's average is $4.03 a gallon, 12 cents less than last week, 27 cents less than last month and 36 cents lower than last year.

"In an encouraging sign for consumers, two regions are below $4 per gallon and the state average is teetering just above that level," said AAA Hawaii Branch Supervisor Cynthia Hall. "Declining prices continue to be welcome news to consumers as the holidays draw nearer."
