Emily Hartong Named First Team All-American, Mita Uiato Honorable Mention

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – (Hawaii Athletics) The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its All-America teams on Wednesday with University of Hawai‘i outside hitter Emily Hartong named to the first team, and setter Mita Uiato garnering honorable mention honors. Hartong will be presented her award on Dec. 14 in Louisville, Ky. at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year banquet.

Hartong, a second team All-America selection in 2011, was named to the AVCA all-region team and was recognized on Oct. 30 as the AVCA National Player of the Week, the first Rainbow Wahine player to receive the award since 2006. The converted middle and right side hitter ranks in the top 10 nationally in kills (4.66 k/s) and points (5.29 p/s) and led her team to a Big West title with an 18-0 conference record.

Over the course of the season she collected four Big West Player of the Week awards. Her national player of the week honor came off a career-high 33 kills (.329) at Long Beach State and a 29-kill and career-high 16-dig performance at UC Irvine.

Uiato earned her first All-America honor of any kind. She garnered AVCA all-Region honors after being named First Team All-Big West. She finished the conference season ranked second in assists (10.26).

The ‘Bows closed the season in Seattle, Wash. with a loss to Washington in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They finished the season 27-3 and won their 18th straight conference title.
