HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A holiday display at one of Oahu's most popular Christmas destinations was vandalized on Tuesday, when someone reportedly smashed a gift box and knocked over a holiday tree at the Honolulu Hale City Lights.
The targeted display belongs to PFLAG--Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays--of Oahu. The group says their "rainbow tree" was damaged, and the smashed box is part of a message that reads "all you need is love."
The extent of the damage is minor, but PFLAG-Oahu President Carolyn Golojuch is outraged, calling the incident a hate crime. The group has filed a report with Honolulu Police.
Golojuch says the Honolulu display is the only one of its kind on public property in the country.
