The nonprofit is dedicated to promoting opportunities for underserved youth as it engages in projects which provide children with educational, recreational and wellness programs. In Shane's native Hawaii, the Victorinos and the SVF have raised more than a half-of-a-million dollars for various charities that serve children in need. The organization's major endeavor in Philadelphia was the renovation of the recently re-opened Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club, in which the nonprofit pledged nearly $1 million to renovate the 105-year building. Upon its re-naming, Shane become one of two MLB players with a Club named in his honor (other is Willie Mays). In the off-season, the Foundation hosts a number of events, including a holiday toy drive. Known as "The Flyin' Hawaiian" for his intense style of play and lightning speed, Maui's-own Shane Victorino will begin his 10th MLB season as an outfield for the Boston Red Sox. Victorino recently finished his ninth MLB season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, after a late season trade from the Philadelphia Phillies. During the 2012 season, Victorino recorded his 1,000th hit and set a career record in stolen bases. In 2011, Shane enjoyed one of his finest seasons at the plate and in the outfield and was named the NLE Champion Phillies' MVP by the Philadelphia Baseball Sportswriters. He was also chosen by the fans in the "Final Vote" for the National League All-Star Roster. In 2010, Shane was personally recognized with his third consecutive Gold Glove, after the team advanced to the NLCS for the third season in a row. In 2009, the team advanced to their second consecutive World Series during a phenomenal year for Victorino as he earned an All-Star appearance, set new career-highs in nearly every statistical category and was awarded his second Gold Glove. In 2008, Victorino was a catalyst leading the Phillies' to the 2008 World Series victory. Immediately following the championship, Victorino was honored with his first Gold Glove.

Together with his wife Melissa, the civic-minded Victorino created the Shane Victorino Foundation in February 2010. Shane continues to receive numerous accolades and honors for his philanthropic work. Most recently, he was named the recipient of the 2011 Branch Rickey Award, presented annually to honor the MLB player with outstanding humanitarian achievements. In addition, he was named by the U.S. Jaycees as one of 2011's Ten Outstanding Young Americans and was presented the Philadelphia Sportswriters Humanitarian Award.  In 2010, he received the Phillies Roberto Clemente Award, 2010 Phillies Charities Community Service Award and was named the prestigious Union League's Sportsman of the Year. In past years, he was presented with the 2009 Phi Delta Theta International Lou Gehrig Memorial Award given annually to the MLB player who best exemplifies the giving character of Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig. In addition, he is a member of the Philadelphia Action Team, a national young volunteer initiative by the MLB Trust and Volunteers of America and is featured in a national ad campaign promoting volunteerism.
