Farrington Hwy reopened after brush fire contained

The mauka lane along Farrington Highway at Mailiili Road heading in the westbound direction was reopened Monday morning after 50 firefighters from 11 stations contained a brush fire in Waianae. 

Firefighters will be monitoring hot spots after containing the brush fire at around 3 a.m. which broke out near the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

A fire officials says the fire started around 12:45 a.m. Monday morning and burned about 30 acres, much of it in inaccessible areas.

No structures were threatened.

Honolulu police did initially close part of Farrington Highway when the brush fire broke out.
