Family and friends of a Campbell High School student killed in a car crash in Ewa Beach last month spent Saturday, which would have been the girl's fifteenth birthday, urging people to drive safely.
Those close to Kawehi Adkins-Kupuka'a held signs along Fort Weaver Road in Ewa Beach telling motorists to drive safely and warning them about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Adkins-Kupuka'a was a passenger in a GMC Envoy that slammed into another SUV on Kamailie Street. Police suspect the driver of the Envoy, 16-year-old Brandon Harris, may have been drinking.
Her family says they want to make sure that type of tragedy doesn't happen again.
"She would have been 15 today, so we came out to celebrate in her honor," said Sharlene Kupuka'a, the girls aunt. "We wanted to give everybody the message of slowing down, think responsibly, and don't drink and drive."
Memorial services for Kawehi are scheduled for Monday, December 17 at the New Hope Leeward Church in Waipahu.
