MOLOKAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Molokai High School's Principal, Stan Hao, displayed a little extra school pride Thursday. His students shined academically, and in return, Hao let the students dye his hair green.

At the start of last school year, the principal promised students he would dye his hair the vibrant color if they met their goal of reaching Adequate Yearly Progress standards, The Molokai Dispatch reports.

The school did not meet those standards, but they did accomplish double digit gains in both reading and math on the Hawaii State Assessment.

To celebrate, The Molokai Dispatch says Hao allowed students from the graduating class of 2014 to spray paint his hair green for the day.

This occurred in the same week that Molokai Middle School was named "Most Improved Public School in the State."

According to the Department of Education, this is the first time the school has met its adequate yearly progress goals since it became a separate middle school in 2004.
