State opens extra freeway lane to ease holiday traffic

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The State Dept. of Transportation is providing a little holiday cheer to drivers on Oahu.

Effective immediately, drivers can take advantage of extended hours for the H-1 Freeway shoulder lane in the eastbound direction between the Mililani/Wahiawa off-ramp (Exit 8B) and the Pearlridge/Waimalu off-ramp (Exit 10).

The DOT says motorists may use the rightmost shoulder lane from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, seven days a week to alleviate holiday-related traffic.

The extended hours will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Officials advise motorists to use caution while familiarizing themselves with the modified traffic pattern.
