Corps' Honolulu district helping with Sandy

Posted: Updated:

HONOLULU (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is sending personnel from Hawaii to aid in recovery efforts from Superstorm Sandy.

The corps says 15 members from the Honolulu District's Power Planning and Response Team left Monday for the hard-hit Northeast. The team includes logistics, management and contracting specialists.

The corps, in a news release, says it has been on hand since the storm struck in late October, helping FEMA and state and local officials with such things as contracting and management oversight for debris removal. The corps also has been involved in dewatering, infrastructure assessments, providing bottled water and helping with emergency temporary power.
