LEXINGTON, Ky. – (Hawaii Athletics) University of Hawai'i outside hitter Emily Hartong and setter Mita Uiato were selected to the 2012 AVCA All-West Region team, with Dave Shoji named Coach of the Year. The announcement was made Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Hartong and Uiato are now eligible for All-America honors which will be announced Dec. 12.

Hartong, who moved to the outside after two years in the middle, garnered her second all-region selection after being named the Big West Conference's Player of the Year. She was also named the AVCA National Player of the Week this past October, Hawai'i's first since Jamie Houston in 2006. Uiato earns her first all-region selection after being named First Team All-Big West. She finished the Big West season ranked second in assists (10.26).

Shoji was named region coach of the year for the 10th time. Earlier this season he earned his 1,100th career win, and is four away from becoming the winningest coach in NCAA history. He was also selected Co-Coach of the Year in the Big West this season.
