Police suspect arson at Pahoa home, man arrested

Big Island police suspect a house fire in Pahoa Sunday night is arson and have arrested a 45-year-old man.

Flames were first seen just before 8:00 p.m. at a house on Ohiki Street in Pahoa. When fire crews arrived at the scene, they say a downed power line was blocking the front of the building, hindering firefighting efforts.

The fire caused the carport and roof to collapse and about $180,000 worth of damage.

Police arrested Peter Lopes of Pahoa on Monday on suspicion of assault and terroristic threatening.
