HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Boxing's only eight-division world champion, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, announced Friday he plans to wrap up eight weeks of training by holding a news conference with an unlikely ally: Hawaii's newest representative-elect, Democrat Tulsi Gabbard.
Pacquiao has been training in Los Angeles for his fourth battle against Juan Manuel Marquez. His training ends December 3, and he plans to mark the occasion with a joint media reception in Hollywood with Gabbard.
Outside of boxing, Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs) is the sole congressional representative of the Sarangani province in his native Philippines. He previously endorsed Gabbard for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district.
Gabbard, 31, is an Iraq war veteran who served two tours. Her earliest success in Hawaii politics came in 2002, when she was elected to the state House of Representatives.
Pacquiao and Márquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs), of México, who have won world titles in 12 weight divisions between them, will go head to head for the fourth time in a 12-round welterweight battle December 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
