Retail gas prices declined again over the past week throughout Hawaii, bringing some areas around the state below $4 a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
Honolulu's average price dropped to $3.98 a gallon for regular unleaded – a penny less than last week, 29 cents less than last month and two cents higher than a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.99 a gallon, down four cents from last week, 36 cents less than last month and 32 cents less than this time last year.
Wailuku's average is $4.19 a gallon, a nickel less than last week, 32 cents less than last month and 23 cents lower than last year. The Hawaii state average for regular unleaded declined by two cents during the week to $4.05 per gallon which was 28 cents less than last month and six cents lower than last year.
"More price drops at the retail pump mean more dollars for locals and visitors to spend elsewhere, especially during the upcoming holidays," said AAA Hawaii Branch Supervisor Cynthia Hall. "Honolulu dropped below $4 a gallon on Thanksgiving Day, the first time the average price fell below $4 since Feb. 2. Today our state average is within five cents of the $4 a gallon threshold."
