Hawaii tourism grows in October

HONOLULU (AP) - A report shows that the number of visitors to Hawaii was up in October.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser says that the Hawaii Tourism Authority reports that for the month visitor arrivals grew 8.6% to 640,666. The authority says spending also rose 12.7% to $1.1 billion. All 4 of the larger Hawaiian islands reported growth in total expenditures and arrivals.

The authority says arrivals from Hawaii's core visitor market, which encompasses 11 Pacific states west of the Rockies, rose for the 12th consecutive month.

The gains met or surpassed the HTA's monthly goals and have kept Hawaii's industry on track to reach its year-end targets.
