HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i head women's basketball coach Laura Beeman announced the signing of three junior college standouts, all from Mount San Antonio College. Last season, the trio of Ashley Burchfield, Morgan Mason, and Shawlina Segovia helped lead the Mounties to capture both their conference and state championships. All three are impact players who will be juniors for the Rainbow Wahine in the 2013-14 season.

Burchfield, a 6-2 post player from Huntington Beach, Calif., earned second-team all conference honors last year after averaging 8.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She also accumulated 33 steals, 20 assists and 18 blocked shots in her rookie season. This season, she has upped her game, averaging 10.4 points and 7.8 rebounds through the first five games of the season. Most recently, she was named MVP of the 2012 Mt. SAC Tip-Off Tournament. Burchfield is a 2010 graduate of San Dimas High School in San Dimas, Calif. where she earned four varsity letters each in volleyball, basketball and track and field. In basketball, she averaged 15.3 points and 6.0 rebounds as a senior. Burchfiled was a three-time all-league selection in both basketball and volleyball while earning her team's Most Valuable Player award in both sports.

"Ashley will have an immediate impact and compliment our inside game style well." says Beeman. "She is young lady with great size and is a physical post player who comes from a winning program. Bringing that attitude to our program will be an added benefit to her signing with UH."

Mason is a 5-9 guard who earned all-conference and Most Valuable Player honors at last season's junior college state tournament as a freshman. She also was named Mt. SAC's Rookie of the Year while earning four all-tournament team accolades through her first two years as a Mountie. Mason averaged 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds a game with 87 steals and 63 assists game last year. This season, she has averaged 12.4 points with 4.8 boards though the first five games. Mason is a 2011 graduate of Beverly Hills High School in Beverly Hills, Calif. where she averaged 20.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.1 steals and 2.1 assists per game with the Normans. She earned all-league honors as a freshman and sophomore and was voted to the all-state first-team in 2008.

"Morgan is an athletic guard that can defend 94-feet, run the point and get to the basket." says Beeman. "Her winning attitude and familiarity with the UH system will help make an immediate impact on our program next year."

Segovia is a 6-1 forward who currently is averaging 11.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and was named MVP for the Ventura Tournament earlier this season. Last year, she averaged 10.2 points and 5.4 boards per outing for the Mounties en route to being named first-team all-conference and first-team all-state tournament. Segovia is a 2010 graduate of John W. North High School in Riverside, Calif. She earned two letters in basketball and three in track & field for the Huskies where she was tabbed first-team all conference and first-team all CIF as a senior. She was also named the school's Athlete of the Year in 2010 as a senior. In her final Husky season, she averaged 14.3 points and 6.9 rebounds with 1.3 assists and 2.2 steals a game.

"Shawlina is an athletic 4/3 player. On offense she can post up with her back to the basket or face up on the perimeter." explains Beeman. "She also has the ability to defend a guard or a post in the paint and she will also add additional rebounding help to our team."

Beeman served as head coach at Mount San Antonio College from 1994-2010 where she won 10 South Coast Conference championships and four California Community College State titles. She compiled an overall record of 390-110 (.780) with the Mounties who qualified for the post season all 15 season she was there.
