LAIE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Two people were injured when their motorcycle collided with a golf cart near the Turtle Bay Resort.
Emergency Medical Services said the accident happened at around 12:45 p.m. near the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Kuilima Drive.
Honolulu police said a male in his 60s and a female in her 60s or 70s were riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle when they lost control. The bike went down then slid into a golf cart being driven by a Turtle Bay maintenance worker, who was waiting at a stop sign on Kuilima Drive.
"It appears that the victims on the motorcycle may be tourists who were riding. And per a witness, they saw the front wheel start to wobble, and then the bike go down," said Lt. Robert Towne of HPD's Traffic Division.
The motorcycle driver was hospitalized in critical condition. The woman passenger was in serious condition. EMS said they were not wearing helmets.
The Turtle Bay employee was not injured.
Police closed all lanes of Kamehameha Highway between Crawford's Convalescent Home and the Kahuku Sugar Mill while officers investigated the accident.
