HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The
Honolulu Fire Department is reminding revelers that permits are required for
anyone wishing to use firecrackers on New Year's Eve.
The
permits, which cost $25 dollars are only available at Satellite City Halls, allow
the purchase of not more than 5,000 firecrackers from licensed retailers.
Only
firecrackers that are purchased with a permit from licensed retailers are legal
on Oahu. Other fireworks, including
fountains and sparklers, are illegal, according to HFD.
Because
of the city's fireworks ordinance, Firecrackers can only be sold from December
26, 2012, at 12:01 a.m. to 12 midnight on December 31, 2012. They can only be
set off between 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve and 1 a.m. on New Year's Day.
