Fire destroys cottage in Kihei

KIHEI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A Kihei cottage was destroyed after a fire broke out Monday afternoon.

The fire occurred around 3:40 p.m. on Kehala Drive.

Officials say it was an accident, and that smoldering debris in a trash can in the living room sparked the blaze.

Damage is estimated at around $45,000.
