HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The Honolulu City Council will
hold a special meeting on Thursday to approve a resolution that will authorize
federal funding for the city's rail project.
Local rail supporters had
reason to celebrate earlier this week after the FTA notified Congress that it
planned to sign the formal agreement with the city, probably sometime in
December.
"Adoption of the
resolution to authorize the Full Funding Grant Agreement is an important step
for the Council," said Council Chair Ernest Martin. " It is one of the most
significant decisions that the Council must make to demonstrate support for the
rail project."
All nine Councilmembers
will meet Thursday to vote on the $1.5 billion dollar deal.
