Holiday shoppers head to Blaisdell on 'Small Business Saturday'

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

With the mayhem surrounding "Black Friday" finished for the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday, thousands of shoppers are heading to the Islandwide Expo Craft Fair at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall to participate in "Small Business Saturday."

More than four hundred businesses set up displays at the fair, hoping to capitalize on the shopping energy that surrounds the first weekend of the holiday shopping season.

One of the shoppers says she has been coming to the expo for the past thirteen years, and believes the fair is the perfect option for holiday gift seekers.

"I come here for my Christmas shopping, for ideas," said North Shore resident Zina Mercado. "Just for little gifts, I have a goodie closet that I keep things in, in case it's your birthday, I have a present for you. So yes, every year."

Small business owners also appreciate the venue that the fair provides to show off their wares.

"It's good for us. It's good for the islands, and we get to share a little bit of our mana'o, said Sandy Hopkins, the owner of Aloha Impressions. "We've got to see the keiki, now they are adults and buying for their own keiki."

The expo runs through Sunday, and doors open in the morning at 10:00 a.m.
