MAUNA LOA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Two hikers were rescued approximately
two miles from the summit of Mauna Loa on the Big Island on Friday after they
were separated from the hiking trail after dark, according to the Hawaii County
Fire Department.
Rescuers received a distress call at
around 6:45 p.m. saying a 50-year-old man from Australia and a 29-year-old
female from Germany required assistance. Crews responded to the scene near the
top of Mauna Loa at just after 8:00 p.m.
The two hikers were found in good
condition and did not require medical attention.
