Rainbow Wahine clinch Big West; Maeda steals show

Manoa (HawaiiNewsNow) – The 8th ranked Rainbow Wahine volleyball team wrapped up the Big West Conference regular season crown, sweeping UC Riverside 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 Friday night.

But the night belonged to the lone senior, libero, Emily Maeda.  After celebrating senior night with a dance routine and receiving lei, Maeda was blind folded near center court while a large polka-dotted box was wheeled out in front of her.

When Maeda removed her blind fold and lifted up the top of the box, her boy friend Chad stood up from underneath holding a small grey box in his hand and proposed.

With the crowd cheering and the team surrounding the pair, Maeda capped off her senior campaign at home by accepting the engagement.

Next up for UH, the NCAA selection show this Sunday. Hawaii, who entered the week 16th in the RPI standings, is eligible to host an opening round match of the NCAA tournament.
