Gunfire triggers high-speed chase through Honolulu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Kalanianaole highway between the Halona Point Blowhole and Hanauma Bay was briefly closed Thanksgiving afternoon following a high-speed chase through Honolulu.

Military spokesperson Dennis Drake says the incident started at 12:30 p.m. with a spouse at Aliamanu Military Reservation (AMR) calling to report her husband firing shots at a residence.

As military police arrived, the husband drove off and a pursuit began. Honolulu police joined the pursuit that started on Moanalua freeway then onto the H1 and finally Kalanianaole Highway.

The pursuit ended near Lanai lookout, authorties say the suspect did have a weapon when he was taken into custody.

There is no confirmation that he fired a shot during the chase.

Four military police vehicles and an unknown number of HPD vehicles we involved in the pursuit.

Police say he hit a military police vehicle and a PT Cruiser that was parked at Lanai lookout.

Authorities took the suspect to Tripler Army Medical Center for a psychological evaluation. No one was hurt during the chase.
