(HawaiiNewsNow) - Airmen from the 109th Air Operations Group, Hawaii Air National Guard will be serving food to the homeless at the Rive of Life Mission on Thanksgiving Day. They are also soliciting for clothing, canned food items, non-perishable foods, and personal hygiene products: toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc. Members of the public who wish to donate the above mentioned items can drop them off at the Chinatown Police Station, corner of Maunakea Street and Hotel Street by the 21st of November 2012. Members of the public can also help with the cause by bringing in 3 canned goods when dining at Chai's Island Bistro between now and the 21st of November to receive a free appetizer, complements of Chef Chai Chaowasaree.
Another similar event was put together by the same POC, Honolulu Police Officer John Kim, 2 years ago. Members of the public poured in to drop off canned food donations at the Chinatown Police Substation, collecting an excess of 800 lbs of food for Hawaii's hungry.
Captain Anjanette Lowe, planned for the members of the 109th Air Operations Group to serve food on Thanksgiving Day. Being inspired by Captain Lowe's willingness to serve the community, Master Sergeant John Kim, who currently is the First Sergeant for the 109th Air Operations Group decided to tap into his previous experiences and have a canned food drive at the same time to allow for his fellow Airmen who could not attend the event to contribute as well. "I know that there are a lot of people in the public that want to help as well, and I thank the District 1 Command at the Honolulu Police Department for allowing me to utilize the Chinatown Police Substation as a drop off point" said, Master Sergeant John Kim.
