HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Jake Shimabukuro & Friends' Concert
Bank of Hawaii presents the 1st Annual Jake Shimabukuro & Friends Concert at Hawai'i Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 24. In the midst of touring across multiple countries and endless time zones, Jake Shimabukuro has been wrapping up plans to make his hometown show an unforgettable night and special new annual tradition. The performance will be an opportunity to have fans from Hawai'i and beyond gather here in the islands and join Jake and special guests in celebration of his music and beloved home state of Hawai'i.
Jake will be performing songs from his latest album, "Grand 'Ukulele," which is said to be his most ambitious album to date, blending several styles of music including classical, blues, flamenco, mandolin, rock and surf rock. On this latest project, Shimabukuro collaborated with producer Alan Parsons who is well-known for his work on music's most influential iconic classics including the Beatles' "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon."
Helping to set the tone for the night, Jake commissioned a painting by internationally acclaimed O'ahu artist and friend, Heather Brown, to be featured in a commemorative poster for the concert (click here to download a digital copy. The poster epitomizes the spirit of the night - a collaboration between Jake and one of his favorite local artists shining a spotlight on that unique energy that makes us feel lucky to live Hawai'i. From the classic fonts paying tribute to Hawai'i Theatre's 90th anniversary to the vivacious emotion called forth by Heather's depiction of our seas, sands, waves and mountains, the print reflects Jake's great pride in his island home and culture and excitement for the kick-off of his new annual hometown concert. A limited number of autographed prints (all done on 100% post-consumer recycled paper) are now available for purchase at Jake's online store.
For years, Jake has focused on reaching and supporting great numbers of people in Hawai'i through frequent appearances at island festivals. On the Saturday following Thanksgiving, Jake takes a different tact. At the 'Pride of the Pacific' - the remarkable Hawai'i Theatre, Jake will stand center stage joined by only his ukulele and special guests comprising his local music 'ohana.
