HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Mayor Peter Carlisle gave the first
donation to the Red Kettle, along with Central Pacific Bank CEO and President John Dean, to kick off the Salvation Army Red Kettle bellringing campaign and
Angel Tree program this afternoon in Tamarind Park.
The Royal Hawaiian Band filled the
park with Christmas music and BillyV and Bruddah Wade from KINE Radio were the
emcees for the program.
Starting today red kettles will appear
in 90 locations across the state and Angel Trees will be found in all Central
Pacific Bank branches as well as major shopping malls.
The Salvation Army uses the monetary
donations they get during the holiday red kettle bellringing campaign to help
those in need all year. This year they have encouraged people to not only
donate on street corners, but to become their own bellringers and encourage
family and friends to fill their 'virtual' red kettle online.
The Salvation Army's Angel Tree
program allows people to choose an 'angel' from any of the trees at Central
Pacific Bank branches or shopping malls and donate an unwrapped gift for that
angel to be distributed before Christmas. Monetary donations are also accepted.
For more information on how you can donate visit,
www.salvationarmyhawaii.org or any Central Pacific Bank branch. To become a virtual
bellringer, visit www.onlineredkettle.org.
