More than holiday cheer distributed during "Give Thanks" event

Posted: Updated:

With less than a week to go until Thanksgiving, needy families around Oahu received more than just holiday cheer during the Institute for Human Services' annual "Give Thanks" event on Saturday.

More than 100 volunteers helped deliver donated food to roughly 80 families during the drive, which organizers says provides needed supplies for families looking to get back on their feet during the holiday season.

"You can see some of the boxes that people are making that have soups in them, some cake mixes, a lot of vienna sausage, a lot of pasta and rice, things that our local families really do need to thrive," said Catherine Graham of the Institute for Human Services.

Any leftover food that is not distributed before Thanksgiving will stay at the I.H.S. shelter to help other families in need during the holidays.
