HALEIWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Day two of the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa is in the books.

This is the first stop on the $1,000,000 Van's Triple Crown of Surfing, now in its 30th year.

Waves were solid 8 to 10 feet and stormy, making for the most extreme and challenging conditions Haleiwa can offer.

Local standouts in the morning heats included Zeke Lau and Joshua Moniz, along with Fred Patacchia, Tanner Hendrickson, and Hank Gaskell, who advanced to round 4 on Saturday.

North shore champion Jamie O'Brien had a great tube ride but failed to advance after breaking his board in the infamous toilet bowl section of the wave.

Highlight of the day was the "$20,000 Clash of the Legends" expression session featuring past champions Sunny Garcia, Tom Curren, Mark Occhilupo, and Kaipo Jaquias.

Garcia leads the pack with a victory in today's heat. The four will surf again tomorrow to determine the overall winner.
