No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.8 earthquake near Russia

A strong earthquake shook an area off the coast of Russia, but was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The quake was measured at a magnitude 6.8, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake happened at 8:12a.m. HST, about 100 miles south-southwest of Severo-Kuril'sk, Russia.
