WASHINGTON D.C. (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hawaii Senator Daniel Inouye has been released from Bethesda Naval Hospital after suffering a "minor cut to the back of his head" after a fall at his apartment.

Peter Boylan, Inouye's spokesman released the following statement:

"The Senator fell this morning and sustained a minor cut to the back of his head. He did not lose consciousness but was taken to the Bethesda Naval Hospital as a precaution and treated and released.  The U.S. Army Captain and World War II combat veteran wanted to put a bandage on and come to work but his family insisted he get it checked out. The Senator and his family would like to thank everyone for the well wishes and support. He is fine and resting at home."

Senator Inouye is 88-years-old. Inouye is the Senate's most senior member and is President pro tempore which means he is third in the line of succession to the presidency.
