Billionaire Larry Ellison has tapped a local resort industry executive to run the day to day business operations on Lanai.
Kurt Matsumoto, a native of Lanai, will serve as chief operating officer of Lanai Resorts LLC, the company said today. The move is effective Dec. 1.
Matsumoto served as general manager of The Club at Kukui'ula on Kauai, where he has worked for the past five years.
"Kurt embodies the Lanai Resorts cultural standard -- professional excellence, community awareness, deep appreciation for the island's past, and a strong commitment to an amazing future," said Paul Marinelli, vice president of parent company Lanai Island Holdings LLC.
Ellison, co-founder of Oracle Corp., purchased Lanai in June from billionaire David Murdock.
Born and raised on Lanai, Matsumoto served as vice president of resorts and administration for Lanai Co. between 1991 and 2000. During that period, he was in charge of the island's hotels: the Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel.
Matsumoto, 55, is the younger brother of Island Holdings Inc. president Colbert Matsumoto.
