Guy Toyama, a well-respected business leader in Hawaii has died.

Toyama, 42, was the President and CEO of H2 Technologies, a developer of renewable fuels in Hawaii. He was also the Executive Director of Friends of NELHA (Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii).

Friends say Toyama collapsed Saturday evening after running in the 42nd annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival fun run (1 mile run).

He was taken to the Kona Community Hospital and later flown to the Queens Medical Center on Oahu where he died Monday morning.

He had been training to run in the upcoming Honolulu Marathon.

In 2001, Mr. Toyama led a group of investors in starting the first deep seawater desalination plant in Hawaii. Since then, he has been involved in other start-up companies, including a manufacturing company that produces salt from seawater and a Japanese language visitors' guide to Hawaii.

Ian Kitajima of Oceanit said, "This is a huge loss for the state of Hawaii."

He is survived by his wife Rika Horikiri.
