HONOLULU – Warriors head coach Norm Chow will have Jeremy
Higgins and Sean Schroeder compete for the starting quarterback position this
week in practice.
Schroeder, who has started every game for the Warriors this
season, was 10/19 for 100 yards against Boise State. He threw an interception, lost a fumble, and
was sacked four times. Higgins, who
replaced him in the third quarter, was 11/17 for 154 yards with an interception
while being sacked twice. He did,
however, lead the Warriors offense to their only touchdown of the game (the
other being scored on special teams).
Said Chow "we need to pick it up. We need to play better offensively so if
Jeremy gives us that spark we'll go with Jeremy." While that may seem like a lean towards
Higgins, Chow did say that he will not announce the starter until later in the
week.
He did immediately announce the suspension of running back
Will Gregory, who was ejected from the Boise State game early on for throwing a
punch.
"Will Gregory will not be with us this week. We'll take it one game at a time. That was uncalled for."
The Warriors have a short week of practice to adjust. They play at Air Force on Friday night. The game will be televised nationally on
ESPN2. Kickoff is slated for 4:30pm
Hawaii time.
