KAHUKU (HawaiiNewsNow)- The beach fronting Kahuku Golf Course is re-opened after crews discovered an object thought to be a possible unexploded ordnance.
Both HFD and HPD were called to the area just after 9:30 a.m. after a suspicious device was discovered on the beach.
Hazmat and EOD teams arrived about an hour later and determined the object was a flare used for military drills.
Officials say the device had the word 'Navy' inscribed on it and determined it wasn't explosive.
A portion of the beach was temporarily closed while crews investigated the object.
Officials say the item was turned over to the military for disposal.
