MAKENA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Another shark encounter on Maui forced officials to post shark warning signs and close a Makena beach Wednesday afternoon.
Officials with the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) say a diver reported that an 8-foot Galapagos shark attacked a string of fish that he had caught.
The diver released the fish and headed for shore. Ocean Safety officers on a jet ski later found the string with some partially eaten fish still attached to it.
DLNR says lifeguards closed Big and Little beach at Makena and posted warning signs. The beach was reopened Wednesday afternoon.
