(HawaiiNewsNow) - The next Congress has about the same mix of Democrats and Republicans as the outgoing Congress. But former Rep. Ed Case says a number of moderates are retiring, to be replaced by new members who are closer to the edges of the political spectrum, both right and left. This, he said, has implications for doing anything about the across-the-board Jan. 1 spending cuts often called the "fiscal cliff." UHERO economist Carl Bonham looks at the fiscal cliff from a numbers point of view, and says a serious recession will be triggered if the cuts aren't dialed back. Case and Bonham both spoke to Howard Dicus at the State Capitol.
