Man who allegedly stabbed own grandmother charged with attempted murder

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 19-year-old man accused of stabbing his own grandmother early Friday morning in Kaimuki was charged with attempted murder on Sunday.

Charles 'Kealii' Amoy was arrested in the University area around 6 p.m. on Friday after authorities spent nearly 17 hours searching for him.

Eileen Amoy, the suspect's grandmother, remains in critical condition after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times in her apartment. The stabbing happened in Kaimuki just after 1 a.m., when neighbors say they heard screams coming from a second floor unit off of Waialae Avenue.

Authorities say Amoy told them that it was her grandson who had stabbed her.

"Shocked, really shocked. I never expected this to happen at this apartment," said neighbor, Peter Pulido.

The 70-year-old victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Center.

Pulido added that Amoy told him she was worried about being around her grandson when he displayed unusual behavior. Neighbors say he walked around late at night sometimes pacing and in circles.
