Repairs on the Aiea Pedestrian Bridge near Aloha Stadium will begin tonight and should take about a week to complete.

Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes in Aiea. Repairs will take place from 9 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. on Friday. All freeway on and off ramps to Aiea will be closed as work crews use a crane to hoist a 35-foot-long, 5-ton concrete bridge section back into place.

On Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November 3, H-1 Freeway off-ramps to Aiea in both directions (Exits 13A) and the Moanalua Freeway westbound Aiea off-ramp will be closed from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., daily, while crews install new steel railings on the bridge and perform additional work.

A truck hauling a forklift struck the overpass two weeks ago, causing a five ton chunk to fall down.

DOT engineers have inspected the bridge section and determined that it remains structurally sound and will be rehabilitated and reused.

The pedestrian overpass is anticipated to reopen on Tuesday, November 6.

Tibbits Trucking will be paying for these repairs.
