HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

As Hurricane Sandy strengthens in the Atlantic, Hawaiian Airlines has cancelled scheduled flights between Honolulu and New York City at the request of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Passengers scheduled to fly to New York-JFK on Sunday, October 28 and Monday, October 29 will be booked onto other regularly scheduled flights or an additional round trip that will depart Honolulu on Tuesday, weather permitting.

Earlier in the week, Hawaiian Airlines said it would waive any booking change fees related for passengers affected by the hurricane. Affected passengers should call Hawaiian's reservations desk at 1-800-367-5320

According to Hawaiian, the affected flights are HA 50, which departs daily from Honolulu International Airport at 3:05 p.m., and HA 51, which departs daily from John F. Kennedy International Airport at 10:00 a.m.

Hawaiian is also working to make arrangements for neighbor island residents booked on affected flights, and to provide accommodations with the Ohana Hotels for passengers connecting from other Hawaiian Airlines flight destinations.
