MAALAEA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The body of a 35-year-old skin diver who went missing in waters off Haycraft Park in Maalaea early Saturday morning has been found nearly half a mile from shore, according to the Maui Fire Department.
The diver, a man whose name has not yet been released, was last seen at about 3:00 a.m.
Ocean Safety officials conducted a search of the shoreline at Haycraft Park, as well as the shoreline stretching one mile both north and south of the park, then launched a rescue jet-ski from Maalaea Harbor and searched the area the diver was last seen.
Just more than two hours after the diver was reported missing, a commercial ocean vessel spotted the diver face down in the water about a half mile from the shore fronting the beach park.
The body was taken by Ocean Safety to Maalaea Boat Ramp, where paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
