(HawaiiNewsNow) - The Pumpkin Carving Festival has found a new home at Windward Mall. This annual event is a tradition to kickoff the Fall season, with families gathering together to carve pumpkins for the holidays. "Windward Mall offers the perfect setting for families to enjoy quality time together in a festive atmosphere," says Leighton Tseu, president of the festival. "This location has all the important ingredients for a successful family event and we are looking forward to a long partnership with Windward Mall." The Pumpkin Carving Festival is presented by Matson Navigation Company, Safeway, Honolulu Star Advertiser and MidWeek.
Families can make their reservations and pre-purchase their packages on the website. Each package ($35 for family of four) includes a medium size pumpkin, a carving kit (scooper, mini saw/paring knife), gloves and stencils, and a reserved work table. Seating times are 10 a.m., 1 p.m., or 4 p.m. Each seating is limited to the first 250 families. Michigan Master Carver, Pumpkin Ed, will again be at the Festival carving his 1,000 lb. giants. "Pumpkin Ed was a huge hit with our families last year," says Billie Gabriel, festival founder. "We want families to come and watch him create his whimsical characters, then have their photos taken with these giant pumpkins." Net proceeds from the festival will benefit two local charities: Keiki o ka Aina Family Learning Centers and USO Hawaii - Wounded Warriors Program.
