The heavy showers and thundershowers we were tracking overnight and this morning remained off shore to the south of the islands and have dissipated for the most part. However, the potential remains for some locally heavy rainfall and perhaps lightning and thunder.
Skies are partly sunny this morning with clouds covering much of the islands. Daytime heating could produce showers over interior and leeward sections this afternoon and they could be locally heavy due to more than average amounts of moisture in a fairly unstable atmosphere aloft.
Volcanic haze continues to spread from the Big Island and will be a respiratory issue for most island residents until the trade winds return.
The National Weather Service says 10-20 mph trade winds could be back as early as Friday afternoon. Breezy and sunny trade wind weather is expected by Sunday and should continue into next week.
