WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Salvage crews will be working to remove a sunken sailboat that is blocking the Ala Wai channel Wednesday morning.
The 25-foot vessel is resting on the ocean floor off Magic Island with part of its mast sticking out of the water. The boat is also breaking up in the rough surf.
Rough conditions prevented DLNR from installing a light or a buoy to mark this hazard to navigation.
All ocean users are asked to stay well clear of the vessel, especially while salvage and cleanup operations are underway, and be cognizant of a possible increase of marine debris in the channel and the nearshore waters of Waikiki and Ala Moana. Mariners may seek to moor temporarily at the nearby boat harbors.
