HFD crews respond to Waikiki building fire

WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters are working to put out a blaze on the second floor of an apartment building in Waikiki.

The first alarm sounded at approximately 6:11 a.m. Fire fighters arrived on scene to see heavy smoke coming out of a window. After the second alarm at 6:15 a.m., fire fighters were able to get the fire under control.

A male occupant in his forties was taking refuge on the rear-end of a balcony and was taken by Emergency Medical Services to a hospital due to experiencing smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire and amount of damage is unknown at this time. A fire investigator has been called in.

The fire is not extinguished yet, but it remains under control.
