HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The man who stands accused of fatally stabbing his friend Brent "Keola" Kanae in a stairwell at Ala Moana Shopping Center earlier this month made his first appearance in court today. His attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Jacob Le, 26 years old, did not speak in court, only nodding yes when asked questions by the judge. He acknowledged a friend sitting in the gallery as he walked into the courtroom with his ankles in shackles and wearing gym shorts, t-shirt and slippers.

Le was charged with second-degree murder last week in connection with Kanae's death. After he was arrested, sources say Le confessed to the murder.

The confession came after a public charade expressing his sadness over Kanae. Le posted the song "Friends Are Friends Forever" on his Facebook page two days after the murder, then danced in Kanae's honor at his funeral.

Le and the victim were in the same dance crew and lived less than a mile from one another in Kapahulu.

Le is still in custody and has not yet posted $250,000 bail.
