HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Open Table Reservations, a nationwide online restaurant booking service, revealed Leis Class Act as the number one restaurant on their list of "Best Overall Restaurants Hawaii"
Leis Class Act Restaurant is run by the UH Maui College's Maui Culinary Academy. It is a real, five-star restaurant and a living classroom where diners can watch as their student-chefs prepare their meals.
"We really think it's important that our students understand the guest's needs, because we're all in this business to satisfy and to serve our guests. If they're better able to understand the guest's needs and what it takes to be an exemplary restaurant in our guest's eyes, we're gonna be a successful restaurant," said Juli Umetsu, a dining room instructor.
Students prepare exotic menu items like Salmon and Scallop Paupiette with Pea Shoot Coulis or Chicken Bastilla with Shaved Fennel and Harissa Yogurt. They prepare the appetizers, salads, soups, entrees and desserts with fresh, locally-grown produce.
There is a special event on November 15: "Street Eats: Dishes Inspired by International Street Vendors." Some dishes on the menu are Kafta En Croute with Tzatziki Sauce, Coriander Duck Pate En Croute, and Osaka Smoked Takoyaki.
The restaurant is open Wednesdays and Fridays with seating starting at 11:30am. Reservations can be made through Open Table or by phone at (808) 984-3280.
