WAIMANALO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man lost control of his van this morning and crashed into a utility pole and then a Waimanalo home, resulting in a power outage that first affected 1,500 customers in the area.
Police say that at about 3:30 a.m., the van veered off the road and clipped a neighbor's parked car, which sent it crashing into a utility pole and then through a fence and into the main room of a home.
The damaged utility pole resulted in a power outage that affected 1,500 customers in the area. HECO says that power has been restored to all but 14 customers.
Paramedics say the 21-year-old driver was taken to Queen's Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
The portion of Kalanianaole Highway is closed near Wailea Street and Puuone Street. Traffic is being re-routed.
