LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Synthetic cannabinoids, synthetic ecstasy, and synthetic cocaine were among the items seized by Kauai police and state's Narcotics Enforcement Division the during a bust of a smoke shop on Monday.

The bust happened after a search warrant was served at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Dream Electronics Cigarette shop in Lihue following a four-month investigation.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Police say other items of drug paraphernalia, including several bongs and smoking pipes, were also seized.

The Kauai Police Department says that synthetic drugs are particularly dangerous, especially to young people.

"Sophisticated marketing tactics have led to the increased use of these illegal substances among children, and most parents would never suspect some of these products to be illegal," said Roy Asher, Assistant Chief of the Investigative Services Bureau. "As parents, guardians and role models to our youth, it is important that we are aware of what is happening in and around our home so that we can take the necessary steps to prevent drug abuse."

The DEA has created a website to help parents and guardians identify and prevent drug abuse in children and young adults. To learn more, visit www.getsmartaboutdrugs.com.
