H1 crash closes Pali on ramp

The H1 westbound Punchbowl on ramp is closed this morning due to a motor vehicle accident. The Honolulu Police Department were on scene at about 5:00 a.m. and requested a tow truck to clear the accident. A car struck a pickup truck at School Street and Pali Highway. The car then crashed into a fence and went down the embankment on to the freeway.@

Obama and Romney face off in the second presidential debate

Following Romney's well-received performance and Obama's lackluster one after the first debate, the stakes for today's second town-hall debate at Hofstra University on New York's Long Island are high as national polls continue to tighten. Today the candidates will focus on undecided voters and independents. @

Rise in monthly Social Security payments

Social Security recipients will be seeing a 1.7 percent increase in their monthly payments next year. The increase is based on the annual inflation numbers -- which were completed by today's report that prices rose by 0.6 percent in September. Prices last month were driven up by higher gas costs -- but aside from energy, there was little sign of inflation.

Seven paintings stolen in Netherlands heist

Dutch police say seven paintings stolen from a museum include one by Pablo Picasso, one by Henri Matisse, and two by Claude Monet. The heist, one of the largest in years in the Netherlands, occurred while the private collection was being exhibited publicly as a group for the first time. Police are reviewing videotape footage and calling on any witnesses to the crime to come forward. The heist is believed to have taken place early
